Awnings FAQ

Q. What is the proper way to clean awning fabrics?
A. Acrylic fabric should be cleaned regularly before substances such as dirt, roof particles, etc. are allowed to accumulate on and become embedded in the fabric. The fabric can be cleaned without being removed from the installation.  Simply brush off any loose dirt, roof particles, etc.; hose down and clean with a mild solution of natural soap in lukewarm water (no more than 100º F).  Rinse thoroughly to remove soap.  DO NOT USE DETERGENTS.  Allow to air dry.

For more stubborn cases:  Soak the fabric for approximately twenty minutes in a solution of no more than 1/2 cup of a non-chlorine bleach and 1/4 cup natural soap per gallon of water at approximate 100º F.  Rinse thoroughly in cold water to remove all of the soap.  Note:  excessive soaking in non-chlorine bleach can deteriorate sewing threads.  This method of cleaning may remove part of the water repellency and the fabric should receive an application of an air-curing fluorocarbon water repellent treatment, if water repellency is a factor.

Q. How are lateral arm awnings attached to the house or building?
A. For wall and soffit attachment, two or more brackets (provided with the awning) are attached to the solid structure of the building with lag bolts in a typical installation. For roof mounted units, a special bracket, that can be adjusted for the pitch of the roof, is bolted to the roof framing with lag bolts. All awnings are sent with step-by-step instructions that illustrate how the awning is to be mounted for various positions and surfaces.

Q. Is the fabric waterproof?
A. Acrylic awning fabrics are water repellant, not waterproof. Awnings are primarily designed for sun protection, however, with the proper pitch, awnings will keep you dry in a light rain.

Q. Why do you recommend that the awning be motorized?
A. A motor is certainly not required for any of our residential awnings. However we believe that you will get more use and therefore more benefit from your awning if it is easier to use. To help encourage adding a motor to your awning, we have the lowest prices on the internet for our motors.

Q. What is the warranty period?
A.
ShadeRight Retractable Awnings are offered with a 10 year warranty on the frame, 5 year warranty on the fabric, and 5 year protection on all electronics.

Q. Why don't you offer a lateral arm awning with a 14' projection like some of your competitors?
A
. We believe that your safety and the safety of your property should be their first priority. We make the finest lateral arm awnings available, using the best materials and engineering. Our test data indicates that a projection beyond 13' is not a responsible decision.

Q. Is it possible to get umbrellas and cushions with fabrics that match the awning fabric?
A
. Yes, we offer umbrellas, furniture cushions, and table cloths with matching Sunbrella fabrics.
