About Us
Backyard America is a family owned business located in Manassas,
Virginia, near Washington, DC. We started out, and continue
today, as a building contractor specializing in outdoor
structures. We have built thousands of decks, porches, sunrooms,
sheds and gazebos. We have been installing outdoor lighting,
awnings and garden structures for many years as well. When we
discovered there was a need for a nationwide dealer for some of the
products that we were offering we created a web site. That was in
1998.
Since then
we have increased the size of our facility several times to allow us
to start a vinyl fabrication shop and more recently a wood products
shop. By manufacturing our vinyl and many of our wood products, we
can control quality and delivery and offer the best price. (You can
visit our facility by entering 8527 Phoenix Dr., Manassas, VA in
Google Earth. We have grown some since the satellite photos were
taken, but you can see where we're located.)
One of our most significant
advantages over our competitors is that we use virtually all of our products on
projects that we build for our construction company's customers or
for our own use. This is the kind of hands on experience that
cannot be duplicated by reading product brochures or listening to
factory reps. Our goal is to be the smartest guys around in how to
install and use all of the products that we offer.
Product selection is based on offering quality products at a fair
price. Our goal is to exceed your expectations with our products
and service. We carefully select our suppliers to ensure that they
have the same operating philosophy. This desire to offer the best
value led us to fabricate the majority of
our vinyl products and now some of our wood at our facility in Manassas.

You will always be treated with respect.
Some companies claim to operate under a “The customer is
always right!” policy. The first line in our company polices
that all employees must agree to is “The customer is not
always right, but the customer is always the customer.” This
simply means that whether a customer is right or wrong on an
issue makes no difference in how they are to be treated. All
of our customers are to be treated with respect all of the
time.

You will always receive honest information.
We try to make sure that we do everything right and we are
on time every time. The vast majority of time we do. But
occasionally we make an error or simply cannot make a
schedule commitment. You will be given as accurate
information as to the status as we have – not excuses,
accurate information.

Your personal information will always be
treated with complete security and only for the purpose you
intended. We shred our paper copies that contain
personal information when they are no longer needed. We use
the latest encryption software and have extremely limited
access to information kept in computer storage. Your
personal information never goes home on someone’s laptop or
other electronic device. We never sell or loan email
addresses to anyone.

You will never see an intentional false ad
from us. We do not repeatedly change dates for the same
offer purely for the purpose of creating a false sense of
urgency. We do not lure customers in with “loss leaders” or
practice “bait and switch.”
The basis of our sales strategy is to provide all the information
that you need to make the best purchasing decision for your needs
and budget – we think that is your best value. If our site does not
have the information that you need call us on our toll free number
and we will get you the answers that you need as quickly as is
practical.
All the above is true. But don’t be mistaken, this is not a social
experiment! We are operating a for profit venture. We just believe,
like many other companies, you can make a fair profit without
resorting to tricks, deception, and a lot of smoke. We hope that you
agree that it is a good way to run and grow a business. So far the
strategy seems to be working very well. In 2007, Inc. Magazine
named Backyard America as one of the fastest growing private
companies in America.
